Carnival Cruises Leaving From New Orleans Canceled Through Feb Of 2021
NEW ORLEANS -Carnival Cruise Line has canceled all cruises from the Port of New Orleans through the end of February 2021.
Important update regarding early 2021 U.S. sailings.
Carnival announced the cancellations Wednesday. Cruises out of Mobile, Jacksonville, Baltimore, Charleston, and San Diego are also canceled through Feb. 2021.
Cruises from all other U.S. homeports are on hold through the end of January.
Sailings out of Tampa, Florida, on the Carnival Legend are paused through March 26.
The move comes as Carnival works to meet a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention order for resuming operations during the coronavirus pandemic.

Due to Hurricane Ida‘s ravagement of The Big Easy, Carnival Cruise Line has been forced to cancel a voyage, which was scheduled to depart New Orleans on Sunday, that would have been the first ocean cruise to set sail from the city in nearly 18 months.
The 2,980-passenger Carnival Glory had planned to become the first vessel to depart from the Crescent City on Sunday, September 5, one week after the Category 4 storm struck the city. As of today, electricity has been restored in some areas, but the vast majority of the metro remains without power, according to NOLA.com.
The Carnival Glory had been slated to sail a seven-day voyage from New Orleans to the Bahamas, with calls in Bimini, Freeport and Nassau, The Points Guy reported. In a statement, Carnival told the outlet that the decision to cancel Sundays sailing was made after local officials conducted a post-storm assessment of the area.
The channel to the cruise terminal remains closed, and New Orleans is under emergency management, Carnival wrote in its statement. We will provide our guests and travel advisor partners with additional information as it becomes available.

Carnival canceled all embarkations from U.S. homeports through January and said Baltimore, Charleston, Jacksonville, Long Beach, Mobile, New Orleans and San Diego embarkations are canceled through February. Embarkations on Carnival Legend out of Tampa are canceled through March 26.
“In total, 16 Carnival ships are currently following the CDC process for an eventual resumption of guest service in the U.S. in 2021, including Carnival Conquest, Dream, Ecstasy, Elation, Freedom, Glory, Liberty, Miracle, Panorama, Pride, Sensation, Sunrise, Sunshine and Vista,” the statement added.
The cruise industry has been essentially closed for business since mid-March, when it became clear that the deadly and highly contagious virus had already been sweeping through the U.S. unabated for weeks. The cruise association has estimated that the suspension of cruises has so far cost 164,000 American jobs and lost the industry’s economic contribution of more than $25 billion.
Cruise ships have seen a number of coronavirus outbreaks, several of which led to enforced on-board quarantines, with passengers trapped on ships for extended periods.
On Tuesday, Norway’s SeaDream Cruise Line canceled its remaining cruises this year after an outbreak on its first Caribbean sailing since it resumed cruises.

Carnival Cancels All Cruises Out Of New Orleans For Summer Of 2020
NEW ORLEANS – Carnival Cruise Lines has cancelled all of its planned cruises out of New Orleans for the summer of 2020.
According to The Advocate, on Monday Carnival announced the cancellations of every one of its New Orleans cruises through the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic.
That said, the company plans to begin allowing ships to sail out of Miami, Port Canaveral and Galveston by August 1.
The news comes a few days after the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure announced an investigation into Carnivals response to the outbreak.
“We are taking a measured approach, focusing our return to service on a select number of homeports where we have more significant operations that are easily accessible by car for the majority of our guests,” Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said Monday.
Carnival said it has canceled all North American cruises through July 31. After this, it plans to resume cruises on the following ships:
-Galveston: Carnival Dream, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Vista-Miami: Carnival Horizon, Carnival Magic and Carnival Sensation-Port Canaveral: Carnival Breeze and Carnival Elation

According to Carnival Cruise Line, the company is taking a phased-in approach to cruises this summer.

Impacts From Hurricane Ida Cancel Carnival Glorys First Sailing Back
Carnival Cruise Lines first sailing from New Orleans since the industry shutdown has been canceled due to the impact of Hurricane Ida. The line says the decision was made following a post-storm assessment by local officials. Parts of the Mississippi River are also still closed to maritime traffic.
Carnival Glory was set to depart September 5 on a seven-night roundtrip Eastern Caribbean cruise, with stops at Bimini, Freeport, and Nassau in the Bahamas.
In a letter to impacted guests, Carnival says a departure from the storm-battered city is simply not possible at this time. Our Fleet Operations Center in Miami has been in close contact with port authority officials in New Orleans, who conducted a post-storm assessment, the letter stated.
They have informed us that the channel leading to the cruise terminal is still closed and the city is currently under emergency management. As a result, were sorry to inform you that your cruise has been canceled.

For those who are fully vaccinated and have flexible plans, Carnival is offering the option of transferring their reservation to the Carnival Vista cruise departing Galveston, Texas on September 4. That cruise is a seven-night Western Caribbean sailing stopping at Cozumel, Mexico Belize City, Belize and Mahogany Bay in Honduras.
Passengers who are booked on the sailing and unable to take the Galveston option will get all their money back.

They travel down the Mississippi River to the Gulf. If you look at a map of Louisiana, the extreme southeastern part looks like a peninsula. The Mississippi River runs through that peninsula. For the most part, this area is home to little towns that are most accurately described as fishing villages. In the 1990s and earlier, these were vibrant small towns. But the region has been ravaged by hurricanes, and younger people have left for more opportunities near the city. So, theres really not much to see.
As you leave the terminal in New Orleans, position yourselves on the port side of the ship where you will have great views of the city skyline and of St. Louis Cathedral. You will also pass the Domino sugar refinery and the site of the Battle of New Orleans In December sunset is about 5p.m,. so for the rest of the trip down river you will mostly be seeing the lights of oil rigs and of other boat traffic.

Carnival Updates Guests On Hurricane Ians Impact On Sailings

Carnival Cruise Lines Fleet Operations team in Miami is continuing to closely monitor the potential impacts of Hurricane Ian. Our thoughts are with our guests and local residents who are affected by the storm.
Because of closures at Port Canaveral, the Port of Tampa Bay and the Port of Jacksonville the following sailings were cancelled:Carnival Liberty Three-day cruise from Port Canaveral, Fla. on Friday, Sept. 30.
Carnival Paradise Four-day cruise from Tampa, Fla. on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Carnival Elation Four-day cruise from Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Note: Guests will receive a full refund and a 25% Future Cruise Credit.
In addition, the following changes have been made to sailings due to the storm:
Carnival Legend will have a delayed arrival to Baltimore, Md. today. This will also delay embarkation on the ships next voyage, which will be communicated directly to guests scheduled to sail.

New Orleans Cruise Moratorium Extended As Carnival Cruises Sail From Other States
Carnival Cruise Lines on Thursday extended the moratorium on sailings from the Port of New Orleans through August, despite the resumption of some sailings starting in July from Florida and Texas.
Carnival, the largest cruise ship operator in the U.S., previously announced the resumption of voyages from Miami, Canaveral and Galveston after it had negotiated terms with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that require stringent tests to ensure travelers and cruise ship staff are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, as well as other safety measures.
The operator normally has two large ships sailing out of New Orleans: the Glory and Valor, each of which carry about 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew. The Valor has been in dry dock for refurbishment and upgrades and wasnt due back into service until November at the earliest, in any case.

Oasis Of The Seas Restarting Operations
Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Seas is finally restarting cruise operations and will be the first to do so out of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey. So the cruise ship is departing on September 5 on a seven-night Bahamas sailing including calls at Port Canaveral, Florida the cruise lines private island of Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas and Nassau, also in the Bahamas. The ship will arrive back in New Jersey on September 12.
Oasis of the Seas will continue to sail seven-night Bahamas cruises and will also begin seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami in November 2021. Including Oasis of the Seas, 14 Royal Caribbean ships have restarted operations which is more than half the fleet. Liberty fo the Seas will be next with cruises from Galveston, Texas starting on October 3.
Five Carnival Ships To Restart Through November And December
So lets start with the big news from the week with Carnival Cruise Line announcing which ships will be resuming operations through November and December. Its not all gone to plan as just five Carnival ships will return through the two months. The fleet wont be fully back in action before the end of the year which was the first hope.
- Carnival Valor will follow Carnival Glory in New Orleans with four- and five-night sailings starting on Nov. 1
- Carnival Legend will restart Nov. 14 out of Baltimore, replacing Carnival Pride, which restarts guest operations from Baltimore Sept. 12 and then moves its homeport to Tampa following a Panama Canal repositioning cruise
- Carnival Radiance will have a new maiden voyage date of Dec. 13 out of Long Beach
- Carnival Prides new service from Tampa is scheduled to start on Nov. 14
- Carnival Conquests restart from Miami on Oct. 8 has been rescheduled to Dec. 13
- Carnival Sensations Oct. 21 restart from Mobile has been moved to Jan. 2022
Five vessels in total will return in 2022, including Carnival Liberty out of Port Canaveral, Carnival Sunshine from Charleston, Carnival Paradise from Tampa, Carnival Ecstasy out of Jacksonville, and Carnival Sensation out of Mobile. That does mean further cancellations as those ships remain on hold longer than expected.
