MS Freedom of the Seas is a cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International. She is the namesake of Royal Caribbean’s Freedomclass, and can accommodate 3,634 passengers and 1,300 crew on fifteen passenger decks. The vessel also has 4 crew decks below the waterline. Freedom of the Seas was the largest passenger ship ever built from 2006 until construction of her sister ship, Liberty of the Seas in 2007.

Tip : Surf At The Right Time

The FlowRider surf simulator is a hot spot for cruisers who want a fun challenge. It’s also entertaining for the onlookers because let’s face it: Who wouldn’t get a kick out of watching people flip off boogie boards, arms and legs all akimbo? If you’re eager to test your balance but want to avoid the crowds, try your surf skills on embarkation day or when the ship is in port. You won’t have to wait in line as long, and few people will be around to see you fall. With only one surfer having a go at one time , you can have the whole space to yourself.

Tip : Sip And Save On A Cup O’ Joe

You’re on your way to breakfast but need a good morning coffee — “Look! A Starbucks.” It’s tempting to detour on Deck 5’s Royal Promenade and order your usual tall-size regular coffee with cream and sugar from home. But if you don’t want to shell out a surcharge, a more wallet-friendly caffeine hit is mere steps away. At the adjacent Cafe Promenade, the coffee is good quality, the snacks are scrumptious and best of all — they’re both free.

Food On Freedom Of The Seas: Good Basic Options

The food on Freedom of the Seas is decent, with options for even the pickiest eater. Beyond the main dining room and buffet, you can pick up sandwiches and small bites at Cafe Promenade, slices at Sorrento’s and our personal favorite, Mexican food at El Loco Fresh on the pool deck.

The quality goes up once you venture into the specialty restaurants, and it’s worth splurging on at least one for-fee meal once during your cruise. Options include Chops steakhouse, Giovanni’s Kitchen for Italian food, Izumi for sushi and hibachi and good old Johnny Rockets for burgers.

In general, service is personal, because there are so many spaces in which you can become a “regular.” Baristas at Cafe Promenade, serving Starbucks coffee drinks, remember complicated beverage orders the bartenders at Boleros, Royal Caribbean’s Latin-themed bar, remember names and poisons and even the wait staff in Windjammer, the casual buffet, treat kids as the highest-order VIPs.

We took a few days to vacation in July to celebrate or 10 yr anniversary and birthdays, and go on a cruise to the Bahamas. Royal Caribbean offered a really good package for the Bahamas. The trip was 4/3 nights on the 4th of July. We went into Coco Cay, Royal private island and Nassau. Great experience, food and plenty of activities to do. On the cruise great service, food and night entertainment shows. We booked everything ahead and saved a couple of hundreds. Definitely a worthy experience, Royal never disappoints. Not a good deal because they charge for everything extra on the ship. You only have buffet and main dining options to eat. All the other restaurants they charge. If you get the deluxe drink package they charge 400 per person plus gratuity. They charge 15 dollars gratuity per person per day either way automatically. The ship doesnt have enough seating poolside. You have to wake up very early to save chairs with towels if not you are stuck the whole day without a place to sit. Good luck on a sea day with that.

Freedom Of The Seas Onboard Costs

Another way to gauge the cost of a cruise is to consider how much you’ll spend on board. Even though a lot is included in the base cruise fare, you may still spend money on things like spa treatments, specialty dining, drinks, and excursions. In addition, guests can also have to pay for things like gratuities and tips.

Typically guests can expect to spend about 25 – 40% of the cost of the cruise on onboard expenses. In other words, if the cruise fare is $1,000 per person, you might spend between $250 and $400 on extra expenses.

The table below will help you understand what you might spend onboard a Royal Caribbean ship.

There’s Lots Of Room Choice On Freedom Of The Seas But Cabins Can Seem Dated

Renovated Freedom of the Seas Entering the San Juan Bay

While newer cruise ships tend to focus on balcony cabins, Freedom of the Seas has lots of choices, in all categories. Of the 1,894 staterooms, 880 rooms have private balconies, with the rest being oceanview or interior cabins. A full 168 cabins have promenade views, meaning they overlook the inside “mall” like area that serves as the main corridor of the ship.

Although Royal Caribbean has done a great job of maintaining Freedom of the Seas, the cabins are where the vessel’s age is most apparent. Chipped paint and a color scheme of peach and teal make staterooms look dated. And while they serve their purpose well, they’re average in terms of decor and amenities. There’s nothing particularly noteworthy or innovative about them. One exception to this is a group of new oversized ocean-view cabins and suites, added during a 2015 dry dock. Located on decks 3 and 12, they boast a more modern palette of white, tan and blue.

Pools And Hot Tubs On Freedom Of The Seas

Nothing beats relaxing by a pool with a nice drink in hand as you feel the fresh sea breeze pass by you. The problem is that with thousands of people on a ship, there’s not always room. If you want to spend all day in a pool, a cruise might not be the right choice. You would have a much better bet choosing a resort with a huge pool complex. That being said, a quick dip in the pool can be nice on a hot day.

The Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas has a total of 3 pools and 5 hot tubs.

Tired of loud kids and splashing? 1 of the pools and 2 of the hot tubs are adults only.

Freedom Of The Seas Deck Plans Include Updated Pool Deck More Restaurants And Kids Spaces

FREEDOM OF THE SEAS FULL SHIP TOUR 2022

During a 2020 dry dock, Freedom of the Seas got a major upgrade, especially in outdoor spaces like the pool deck. The cheery new features include bright and charming casitas, a bustling taco shack and the Lime and Coconut bar. The $116-million refurbishment also added new restaurants, kids spaces and cool sports bar, Playmakers. Cabins are virtually the only spaces untouched by the massive project, leaving them feeling a little worn and dated by comparison.

While the ship can hold 4,500 passengers, Freedom of the Seas doesn’t feel crowded. That’s not to say that the ship feels empty or small. Sometimes there’s congestion in Windjammer at peak times, you’ll wait in a line to disembark at tender ports, and dinnertime can be a bit noisy with hundreds of others chowing down around you. At the same time, it’s never hard to find quiet, private nooks. The library, Internet cafe, Cafe Promenade, Vintages wine bar and even the Solarium pool are great for getting-away-from-it-all moments, particularly on port days.

Best Freedom Of The Seas Cruise Tips

Surf lessons, cupcake decorating, ice skating… Freedom of the Seas is far from a traditional cruise experience. But that’s what people love about it. The 3,634-passenger ship that introduced the industry’s first surf simulator and an interactive water park for kids is one of the best ships afloat for families. While it’s easy to keep the kids happy, adults also have plenty to keep them entertained — and many options to treat themselves to alone time. Read on for our Freedom of the Seas cruise tips, and tackle the ship like a pro.

Freedom Of The Seas Staterooms

When it comes to picking a cruise ship cabin, theres a lot to consider. All cabins on Freedom of the Seas include basic amenities like a bed, shower, vanity, television, telephone, chair or couch, closet, nightstands, and cooler. Staterooms can differ widely, however, in size and layout.

Because Freedom of the Seas tends to only sail short cruises, its unlikely youll be spending much time in your stateroom. Between visiting ports and trying out all the fun activities onboard, your cabin might end up being a place you visit only when you need to sleep or shower.

Nonetheless, its important to know which stateroom categories are available on Freedom of the Seas to ensure you book the cabin that fits your budget and preferences best.
