Norwegian Sky Ship Review
The 77,104-ton, 2,004-guest Norwegian Sky was the first new ship NCL built in its modern era, as it carved out its place among the major cruise players. Launched in 1999, she spent several years in the middle of the next decade renamed Pride of Aloha and sailing Hawaiian itineraries, then returned to her original name in late 2008. In 2009 she got a major refurbishment that updated her interior decor, making her much more fresh and exciting than her age would suggest.
Norwegian Sky Review 3 Night Cruise To The Bahamas
I recently had the opportunity to sail aboard the Norwegian Sky for a quick three night Bahamas sailing. It was my second time on the ship and I thoroughly enjoyed my time on board. I would like to touch on a few points that will hopefully help those of you thinking about taking the Sky in the near future. I should mention that this sailing usually has a stop at Great Stirrup Cay, but due to delayed renovations on the island we did not visit and had an extended overnight stay in Nassau.
Entertainment Sports And Relaxation
Also many entertainment options are offered on board the Norwegian Sky. For example, with the production “Rock You Tonight” you will find a master class rock show while you can judge for yourself on the Showdown show which of the talented singers is the best one. For a quiet evening you can recover in one of the bars or lounges and reminisce the eventful day. For active athletes, the Body Wave Fitness Center offers state-of-the-art training equipment and various courses. Those who prefer to move in the fresh air can exhaust themselves on the jogging track. The Mandara Spa offers relaxing massages and treatments . Various pools and whirlpools provide further deep relaxation.

Dining On Norwegian Sky
Sky offers a smaller selection of dining choices than the newer NCL ships, though your options still include:

- Le Bistro, the most formal restaurant onboard, serving French and continental cuisine in a long, narrow room between the two main restaurants

- Il Adagio, an elegantly designed Italian restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows

- The Longboard Bar, a large sports bar that also serves breakfast and lunch

Norwegian Sky Cruise Ship
The Norwegian Sky houses reasonable 2,000+ guests at full occupancy. The perfect number to prevent overwhelming crowds and allow for consistent five-star service to every guest. In 2009, Sky underwent a massive refurbishment to update the decor and create new and exciting amenities.
If you are looking to book a cruise through the Bahamas, you can not beat the Norwegian Sky. It offers a variety of year-round options such as a 3 or 4-day cruise from Miami to the Bahamas. The perfect amount of time to relax and recharge!
Pools & Fitness On Norwegian Sky
The ships main pool area, on Deck 11, offers two pools, four hot tubs, a bar, a dance floor, and an old-fashioned kind of cruise ship vibe: nothing too flashy, just teak decks and deck chairs, with a basketball/volleyball court perched one deck above. Farther forward is the Balinese-inspired Body Waves Spa and Fitness Center. Joggers and walkers can do their thing on the full-circuit promenade on Deck 6, and theres a pair of golf driving nets on Deck 12.

Staterooms & Suites On Norwegian Sky
Skys oceanview and balcony staterooms are done up with a simple, almost old-fashioned look , all creamy white walls, blonde woods, and accents of color in the bedding and curtains. Outsides measure a tiny 149 square feet, while balcony staterooms measure in at 202 square feet. All offer limited closet/storage space and smallish bathrooms with tiny showers and little space to store toiletries. Balconies are designed differently from the cruise ship norm, accessed via a single door that sits next to a large round window.
There are four different levels of suites, from the 402-square-foot Mini-Suites to the 835-square-foot Owners Suite, with its separate bedroom and living/dining room, bathroom with whirlpool tub, and huge balcony with a second whirlpool.
Public Rooms & Entertainment On Norwegian Sky
Sky offers a number of attractive bars and lounges, including the Plantation Club, a bright, Hawaiian-themed lounge on the top deck, specializing in champagne Captain Cooks, a dark, clubby bar on Deck 6 Dazzles Nightclub, a cabaret and disco the bright Atrium Bar for vodka, champagne, and piano music and the aforementioned Longboard Bar, a large sports bar way up on Deck 11.
The Stardust Lounge is the venue for NCLs normally high-quality production shows, and the Outrigger Observation Lounge on Deck 11 turns into a disco once the sun dips over the horizon. Other public rooms include library, an Internet center, and several shops.

The score for this ship might seem a little low, but I dont think it is. The problem here is that comparing this ship to my standard rating guide book is very hard, since this ship is a bit dated. The NCL Sky holds a very special place in my heart, this was my first cruise and one that I will never forget. I would like to say that I fully recommend the NCL Sky for what it is, a ship for short cruises. Within that spectrum the ship serves it very well. If youre considering the NCL Sky as your first cruise, you should do it. It is a great way to learn the ins and outs of cruising without getting too deep into the traditional cruise experience. We are very glad that we choose to sail on the NCL Sky for our first cruise, and it opened our eyes to the product that NCL offers.

NCL Sky Food 7/10
I just want to start by saying that this was my first cruise, so I had no expectations or anything to compare it to. It is not that I am deciding to rate this cruise, after I have sailed a little more. I can now honestly say that this cruise we had the worst food yet out of all our cruises. However this does not mean the food was bad, it only means that it falls short in comparison to my other voyages. The reason why I say this is because now that I remember most of the food of the buffet was just plain, cold and not very appetizing. It was almost as if they left it there for a very long time. The MDR food was average, nothing truly remarkable, but nothing bad either. We never ate at any of their specialty restaurants, so I am not able to comment there. But everything considered, I think the food was average, definitely a lot more variety than what you get at home. I just wish their buffet food was a little better, and more comparable to their larger/newest ships in the fleet. Overall the Norwegian Sky Restaurants offer a good selection of food that should please most first time and short term cruisers.
