Oasis Class Vs Freedom Class

Oasis of the Seas 2022 Cruise Ship Tour

And just like there are differences between the individual cruise ships within the Oasis class, there are also big differences between other Royal Caribbean cruise ship classes too.

The Oasis class ships are often compared to Royal Caribbeans Freedom class, which were once-upon-a-time the biggest cruise ships in the world, at least until Oasis of the Seas entered service in 2009.

Freedom class ships still offer a lot of the adventure activities that you can expect on an Oasis class ship such as FlowRider surfing simulators, multiple pools, mini golf, rock climbing, etcetera but you wont find some of the other popular activities, like the zip lines.

Both some Freedom-class ships and some Oasis-class ships feature the Perfect Storm series of three waterslides. However, these waterslides do differ according to ship.

Oasis of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas all offer the Cyclone, Typhoon and Supercell slides, whereas Liberty of the Seas features a Tidalwave slide versus the Supercell slide.

Additionally, the Ultimate Abyss slide is featured on Oasis-class ships only.

In size, theres a big difference on Freedom class ships, as theyre only about 60% of the size of the Oasis class ships. In the fleet are also the popular Quantum class vessels, that offer many innovations such as the robotic bartenders, North Star and a skydiving simulator.

    Oasis Of The Seas Wiki

Oasis OTS is Royal Caribbean’s first Oasis-Class liner, with sisterships Allure, Harmony, Symphony and Wonder. Oasis-class currently represents the world’s biggest passenger ship design, however, Oasis OTS happened to be the smallest in this series – although with just 50 mm shorter than Allure. There was a competition for proposing the best name for the hulls of both vessels. The sister hulls were named at a dual ceremony in May 2008.

The vessel was completed on October 28, 2009, by STX Europe – a division of the South Korean multinational STX . At its arrival in the USA, right before it docked at homeport Port Everglades , the vessel had to pass under the Danish bridge Great Belt Fixed Link. This was challenging as the bridge is 65 m higher than sea level while ship’s highest point is normally 72 m above sea level. But it made it – due to its telescoping funnels, with only 0,6 m 2 ft) to spare when passing under the bridge!

The cruise liner has an impressive number of 7 godmothers. Each of the “good ladies” symbolized one of the ship’s 7 different neighbourhoods. The naming ceremony took place at Port Everglade, on December 5, 2009.

    What Is The Oasis Class

    Oasis of the Seas

In Royal Caribbeans fleet, there are currently five Oasis class cruise ships, including Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas. The latest, Wonder of the Seas, was just revealed in 2022 and a sixth ship, Utopia of the Seas, is expected to arrive in 2024.

Currently, all of the Oasis class vessels are considered the largest passenger ships in the world, with Wonder of the Seas being the largest of all.

However, Wonder of the Seas wont keep this notable honor for long. Royal Caribbean confirmed that its new Icon-class ship, Icon of the Seas, will be the largest cruise ship ever built once its finished, surpassing the Oasis class.

But, Icon of the Seas is still under construction, so its a long time coming. If you want to sail on one of the largest cruise ships in the world for now , you want to go with an Oasis class cruise.

When the first Oasis class ship was revealed in 2009, critics doubted that Royal Caribbean could really pull off these massive ships in a way that would remain enjoyable for passengers.

However, the cruise line proved the naysayers wrong and delivered what has become one of the most popular cruise ship classes ever and the first over 200,000 gross tons. So just how big are these Oasis class cruise ships? Heres what to expect.

The Oasis Of The Seas Deck Plan Is Easy And Comfortable

Amazing World: Oasis Of The Seas

Despite its size and passenger capacity, Oasis of the Seas deck plans are well laid out and easy to navigate. This cruise ship is bustling and full of families but theres always a spot or two for those seeking to get some R& R away from the kids, including the Oasis of the Seas adult-only pool and sun deck and a pleasant spa.

The way decks are laid out on the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship allows for easy access to tons of amenities without the need to spend all day on the elevator. Few decks have a mix of public venues and staterooms, which means food and drinks are never far from the pool, the Oasis of the Seas casino or the theater.

However, its important to choose a stateroom carefully, as many are located above or below noisy spaces. As a rule of thumb, most of the Oasis of the Seas cabins to avoid are those on Deck 3 below the ice rink and the casino staterooms on decks 6 and 7 closest to the theater, and those on Deck 14, as theyre subject to noise from the pool deck directly above. If youre a light sleeper, the best cabins on Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Seas are those on decks 10, 11 and 12.

Cruisers are often drawn to sister ship Symphony of the Seas for similar itineraries in the Caribbean. This is generally due to its size , but choosing between them often boils down to budget, as they both offer similar amenities.

Oasis Of The Seas Pool Decks & Sports Zone

Outside, Oasis offers one of the most unusual pool decks at sea, split across both sides of the ships superstructure and presenting four distinct options: a traditional main pool a beach pool where the seating area slopes right into the water a sports pool thats dedicated to lap swimming for part of the day and games like water basketball and water polo at others and the H2O Zone water park, full of water cannons and sprayers, plus separate wading and current pools and a dedicated pool for infants and toddlers. Several hot tubs and a number of private cabanas flank each of the adult pools, and a pair of bars are located at the center of the deck, equidistant from all four sections.

Behind the pool zone is the ships sports zone, home to a miniature golf course, a large basketball court, two FlowRider Surfing Simulators, a casual pizza-and-burger stand, and a launch pad for a zipline that sends bold cruisers flying nine stories above the Boardwalk neighborhood.

Oasis Of The Seas Youth Zone

Those kids can also take advantage of spaces designed just for them at the ships Youth Zone, one of the best childrens centers in the business. Covering an amazing 28,700 square feet, it offers ten distinct experiences, including a gym and activities area, a theater where kids can put on shows, a workshop for crafts, Imagination Studio for art projects, the Adventure Science Lab for science-themed learning and fun, and a video arcade. Young kids between 6 months and 3 years can mix it up at the Royal Babies & Royal Tots nursery, one of only a handful of real nurseries in the cruise business. Teens, on the other hand, have their own disco, outdoor deck, arcade, and living-room-style lounge located one deck up. Around the ship, throughout each voyage, kids can also enjoy shows, parades, special meals, and other events presented in collaboration with DreamWorks Animation, the film studio behind hits like Madagascar and Shrek.
