Who Goes On Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships

For the most part, Royal Caribbean ships that sail from the United States attract a wide variety of North American passengers, mostly between the ages of 30 and 55 on the seven-night and shorter cruises, and 50 and over on cruises longer than seven nights. Seven-night and shorter cruises are also popular with families, especially during American school vacation periods, when the ships will often be at filled at well past double capacity and carrying more than a thousand kids.

Cruises from the U.K. — as well as Mediterranean, Asia and Australia cruises — attract a significant number of locals from each area, as well as Royal Caribbean’s usual North Americans.

Cheapest Time Of The Year To Cruise The Caribbean

Hurricane season is the most economical time to cruise the Caribbean, from September to October. You need to be flexible when booking in wave season, as ships can change course when faced with an impending storm.

I prefer to sail the Caribbean in late January because the off-season offers much relief from the blistering sun. January offers the best deals and smaller crowds with the children in school. Again, you can find sales if you have travel flexibility and can take a drop and go.

If you live near a Florida port, you can also save money by shopping for mini cruises and arranging them back-to-back. If you find special offers on 3 or 4-day cruises, taking three back-to-back can cost far less than a single longer itinerary.

Should you need to fly to your embarkation port, look at cruises out of New Orleans and Texas. Since Florida attracts more travelers, you can often score better prices by sailing out of a different state.

Last Sea Day & Disembarkation

The last full day of our Alaska cruise was supposed to include a visit to Hubbard Glacier, but unfortunately we were unable to approach the glacier due to low visibility.

Bad weather was the theme of the day, and we encountered the roughest waters Ive experienced yet on a cruise. I spent most of the day feeling seasick and laying in bed, which was definitely not fun!

As evening approached, however, Reeham and I began to feel better and were able to enjoy our last night onboard before disembarking the next morning in Seward.

We arrived in Seward early on disembarkation day and took a 3 hour shuttle bus to downtown Anchorage. We still had ten hours before our flight once we arrived in Anchorage, so I was pleased to discover that the city has a complimentary building with luggage storage, tables and chairs, and a free airport shuttle available.

Soon enough, it was time to say goodbye to Alaskas beauty and return home.

How Much Does It Cost To Live On A Cruise Ship

Travel Tips

Despite all the cruises I have done, I only once came across someone living on a cruise ship. I tried to find out from the cruise industry how many people live or retire on their ships but no-one knew. It seems very few do, despite how attractive the idea seems. It got me wondering: why do so few people do it? Is it the cost? The practicality? Or do the cruise lines make it hard to do?

I have the answers.

Living or retiring on a cruise ship is a story that newspapers love to cover.

Theyve written frequently about Beatrice Muller, who lived for 14 years on Cunards Queen Elizabeth 2. Lee Wachtstetter, known as Mama Lee, who lived on Crystal Serenity for over 12 years. Morton Jablin, who lived for 13 years on Regent Seven Seas. And Mario Salcedo, known as Super Mario, who has been living on Royal Caribbean for over 20 years.

So, I started by exploring roughly what it was costing these well-known residents to live at sea.

Cheapest Time To Cruise In Asia

Asias rich culture and fantastic cherry blossoms increasingly draw travelers from Europe and North America. However, cruising during cherry blossom season and in the driest months commands the highest prices.

The rainier months offer the best price break, depending on your itinerary. Since Japan experiences seasons, you may find a cheap cruise deal in the fall or spring .

Further south around Singapore, lower prices are available during the monsoon season as long as it isnt Christmas or Chinese New Year.

Asian countries experience different weather patterns based on their location. To hone down the cheapest months, youll need to choose an area to cruise to first.

How Much Is The Royal Caribbean Ultimate World Cruise

Royal Caribbean announces the world’s longest cruise

Here are the prices for Royal Caribbeans Ultimate World Cruise:

  • Interior Stateroom From $59,999 per person
  • Ocean View Stateroom From $64,999 per person
  • Balcony Stateroom From $82,949 per person
  • From $117,599 per person
  • Royal Suite $760,000 per person

On top of those pieces, youll have taxes, fees and port expenses of $4,667 USD per person. However, if you pay for the cruise in full by 6th January 2023, youll get a saving of 10%.

The cheapest ticket on Royal Caribbeans World Cruise costs $58,666 per person. This includes taxes, fees and port charges and is based on two people sharing the cheapest Interior Stateroom and paying the balance 11 months in advance.

This works out at $214 per night. If you want a balcony , then the cheapest ticket costs $79,321, equivalent to $289 per night.

According to my analysis of average cruise costs, a typical 7-night Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean in a Balcony Stateroom with gratuities and drinks included costs $1,735. This equates to $248 per night.

So, the Ultimate World Cruise is pretty expensive. Per night, its 17% more expensive than the average Royal Caribbean cruise, despite being on one of the older, smaller ship. Wouldnt you have thought that the per-night rate would be lower given the long duration of the cruise?

You can get a 7-night Alaska cruise on sister ship, Radiance of the Seas, for just $328, which shows how inexpensive cruises on the older Radiance-class ships like Serenade of the Seas can be.
