Construction Begins On Largest Cruise Ship Terminal In America
The largest cruise ship terminal in North America is being built in Miami and MSC Cruises broke ground on the project this week. The terminal will be able to process up to 36,000 passengers each day and accommodate three cruise ships. The new terminal in Miami is expected to open in late 2023 and will be located next to Royal Caribbeans Terminal A. It will be able to accommodate three of the latest generation cruise ships at once. MSC Cruises is building two of the new docks with Miami-Dade County constructing the third.
Preparations for the Cruise Capital of the Worlds new terminal have been underway since last July, when the Cruise Division of MSC Group and Fincantieri announced a partnership under which Fincantieri Infrastructure would build the state-of-the-art facility. It features a striking design by award-winning global architecture firm Arquitectonica aimed at adding a new layer of beauty to Miamis iconic skyline.
The new terminal will accommodate the cruise lines largest and most environmentally advanced cruise ships, including MSC Cruises newest flagship, MSC Seashore, and the cruise lines future LNG-powered World Class ships. Most cruise ships deployed there will be ready to plug in to the local power grid at berth, in line with PortMiamis plans to enable shore power connectivity.
Three Oasis Class Ships Operational After This Weekend
Symphony of the Seas is the second Oasis Class ship to become operational. Earlier this week, Allure of the Seas was the first Oasis-class ship to set sail after more than 500 days of waiting. She welcomed her first guests on August 8, after which she set sail on her first cruise to St. Kitts, St. Thomas, and Perfect day at Cococay.

Harmony of the Seas will be the second Oasis Class ship to set sail this weekend and the third in total. The cruise ship is currently off the coast of Barcelona, waiting to embark her first guests on Sunday, August 15 to begin Mediterranean cruises.
The last Oasis-Class cruise ship to set sail will be the long-awaited return of Oasis of the Seas. She will be calling Cape Liberty cruise port in Bayonne, New Jersey home and sail to the Bahamas and Bermuda from September 5, 2021. However, she will first need to conclude her first test sailing, which will sail on August 22.
The two other cruise ships that Royal Caribbean is resuming with this weekend are Independence of the Seas, starting on August 15, from Galveston, Texas, and Ovation of the Seas started her Alaska cruises on Friday, August 13, sailing from Seattle, Washington.

If you are staying in the Miami area in a hotel, then you may be able to save on your parking. Many hotels cater to cruisers with special daily parking rates or parking packages, which allow you to leave your car while you sail.
Hotels include DoubleTree, Comfort Suites, Hampton Inn, and others near the port.
To be sure, if you dont plan to stay in a hotel before your trip already, its not worth it to book a room just to get the parking. But if you already want to stay nearby before your cruise, then a hotel with a parking package can save you money over parking at the port.
For example, a hotel might be $150 a night normally, but charge $180 for the park and cruise package that lets you leave your car for a week. The extra package cost is lower than the price of parking at the Port of Miami, which charges $22 per day.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Arrives In Miami After 48 People Test Positive For Covid
MIAMI A cruise docked at Port Miami on Saturday after nearly 50 people aboard the ship tested positive for COVID-19.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Line confirmed 48 people on its Symphony of the Seas cruise, which ended Saturday in Miami, tested positive for Covid.
The cases were identified as a result of contact tracing after a guest tested positive, the cruise line said.
Each person quickly went into quarantine, Royal Caribbean said in a statement. Everyone who tested positive were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, and we continuously monitored their health.
Out of the 6,091 guests and crew aboard the ship, 95% were fully vaccinated.
Additionally, the cruise line said that 98% of the people who tested positive were fully vaccinated.
