“DreamWorks Experience” was a family-themed program via a partnership between Royal Caribbean International and Amblin Partners . Universal Pictures is the distributor of the DreamWorks movie productions through its subsidiary company Touchstone Pictures.
RCI’s DreamWorks programming featured 3D movies and DreamWorks characters meets-and-greets. It was introduced in June 2010 and terminated in March 2019. This new entertainment program was geared toward families and offered DreamWorks movie-themed activities on only 9 RCI ships . The list of such activities included:
- DreamWorks characters meetings and greetings . The list of characters included Po , Shrek, Fiona, Puss , Alex, Gloria, King Julien, penguins .
- Character Breakfasts were offered in the Main Dining Room restaurant.
- 3D DreamWorks movie screenings were available in the Royal Theater , including first-run movies which premiered on the ship were on the same day they went at land-based theaters. Among the films were “Shrek”, “Madagascar”, “How to Train Your Dragon”, “Kung Fu Panda”.
- DreamWorks channel was part of the in-cabin TV programming.

And now, somewhat unexpectedly, Royal Caribbean has added a new ship to the Silversea fleet.
“Earlier this month, we acquired the ultra-luxury cruise ship Endeavor,” Liberty said.
“Originally delivered in 2021, the ship joined Silversea Cruise’s expedition fleet. The ship is scheduled to begin service this November in Antarctica with bookings already commencing. This opportunistic acquisition allows us to add capacity and capture growth opportunities in a very attractive expedition segment.”
Royal Caribbean was able to buy the ship after its previous owner, Crystal Cruise, went bankrupt. Liberty, who formerly served as CFO of Royal Caribbean, explained why the purchase made sense.
“Financially, it was a unique opportunity to acquire a brand-new, high-quality expedition vessel significantly below the building costs and that is fully financed through an attractive, long-term unsecured financing arrangement,” he explained.

Radiance Of The Seas First Impressions
I had never sailed on a Radiance Class cruise ship before, so I wasnt sure what to expect. Royal Caribbean has 6 classes of cruise ships, and each has a different layout and size as well as varied onboard dining, activities, and amenities.
One of the first things I noticed was the large Centrum in the middle of Radiance of the Seas. Royal Caribbean is known for their sprawling Royal Promenades inside the ship, but the cruise lines older cruise ships do not have this feature.
Instead, Radiance of the Seas has a large, 6-story elevator lobby connecting shops, lounges, a coffee shop, and other onboard amenities. I dont mind the Centrum and feel that it connects the ships decks together nicely, although it seemed a bit cramped, even when compared to the more open Centrum area on my recent cruise on Royal Caribbeans Rhapsody of the Seas.
Radiance Class ships are known for the amount of windows found throughout the ship, and this is one of the features I ended up loving most about Radiance of the Seas throughout my cruise. No matter where I was onboard, I could relax with a view and enjoy Alaskas scenery.

The outdoor decks on Radiance of the Seas were really nice as well, although I didnt expect to spend much time there during an Alaska cruise. Having access to the helicopter pad is always a plus, and the indoor pool area in the Solarium was a beautiful space.

With its signature brand, Royal Caribbean International has made its massive ships as much the destination as any port.
If you board an Oasis-class or even a Quantum-class ship, it’s a challenge to experience everything that’s on board during a seven-day trip.
Oasis-class ships, led by the brand new Wonder of the Seas, use a neighborhood concept, with one area devoted to a literal park filled with restaurants, places for live music, a bar, and areas to just enjoy the peace. Another outdoor area hosts a carousel, an indoor/outdoor sports bar, games, and the cruise line’s unique Aqua Theater venue.
Of course, there’s also an expansive pool deck, water slides, a huge dry slide, multiple theaters and music venues, and more places to eat and drink than you likely have time to visit.
Quantum-class ships don’t have the outdoor space, but they have a massive sports court that hosts bumper cars as well as a unique two-floor Royal Esplanade filled with shopping and dining options.
Those ships are massive and Royal Caribbean plans to go even bigger with its new Icon-class and its next Oasis-class ship, Utopia of the Seas. But it has also added a very different ship to the fleet of one of its sister brands.
Chief Executive Jason Liberty explained the circumstances behind that unexpected addition and how the ship will be used during the company’s second-quarter-earnings call.

Whats The Difference Between Old And New Royal Caribbean Ships
There are several differences between the older and newer ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. These are:
Size
Royal Caribbean ships have increased in size as time has passed with the newer ships being much larger and with the capacity for more passengers compared to older ships.
Wonder of the Seas has a gross tonnage of 236,857, which makes her more than three times as large as Grandeur of the Seas with a gross tonnage of 73,817.

Facilities
Newer Royal Caribbean ships have an incredible array of facilities on-board with amenities like water slides, zip lines, skydiving simulators, virtual reality trampolines, escape room games and bumper cars.
You wont find any of these things on the older ships. However, every Royal Caribbean ship does have swimming pools, a rock-climbing wall, an arcade and a kids club.

Destinations
Each cruise ship sails out of one or two ports. In some cases, ships are based in Europe in the summer and the Caribbean in the winter. Many cruise ports have a limit as to the size of the ships they can accommodate. For this reason, Royal Caribbean uses its smaller, older ships to visit destinations that are not accessible to mega ships.
Itineraries on smaller, older cruise ships are often more port-intensive with fewer sea days. With the newer ships, the ship itself is often the attraction rather than the ports of call, so you may have more days at sea.

Like most mainstream brands, RCI offers a behind-the-scenes touring of the ship providing access to areas where passengers are otherwise not allowed to visit.
Conducted only on a sea day, the 2-hour “All Access Tour” is a walking tour of 6x areas – Galley/Kitchen, Navigation Bridge , Engines/control room, waste management , laundry room , food storage rooms, the Royal Theater . Participants are required to wear pants and closed-toed shoes, and are provided with earpieces to hear the tour guide’s narration. The tour leader also often hands off the technical explanations to a crew working in the visited area for more detailed information on the facilities.

Perfect Day At Lelepa
Despite delays due to the pandemic, construction is still underway for Royal Caribbeans newest private destination, Perfect Day at Lelepa. The private destination will be located in the South Pacific country of Vanuatu on the small, uninhabited island of Lelepa.
While Perfect Day at CocoCay features amenities like waterslides and a wave pool, Perfect Day at Lelepa will provide a more tranquil, traditional beach day for visitors. In addition, it will be the worlds first private cruise destination to achieve carbon neutrality, and all energy consumed on the island will be generated from renewable resources.

Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley explained how Perfect Day at Lelepa will focus on showcasing the islands natural beauty and diverse local culture.
We believe our destinations should be sustainably designed. That idea goes beyond simply protecting the ecological features of Lelepa and includes showing respect for the people and traditions that make this a special place.
Perfect Day at Lelepa will handle fewer passengers than Perfect Day at CocoCay. Approximately 3 million passengers visit CocoCay each year, whereas Perfect Day at Lelepa is estimated to accommodate around 800,000 visitors per year.
There is no set opening date for Perfect Day at Lelepa, although it is expected to open within the next few years.
Cococay Island Refurbishments 2018
Since 2015, RCCL invests huge money in the corporation’s private Bahamian island CocoCay. In March 2018, Royal Caribbean announced a USD 200-million project for developing private land destinations in the regions of the Caribbean, Asia, and Australia-Oceania. As part of this project, on CocoCay will be built unique water attractions.
CocoCay has 3 new beaches. Chill Island Beach offers private cabanas and daybeds. South Beach is specifically designed for beachside activities and offers bungalows, daybeds, teepees . Coco Beach Club is an exclusive beach with overwater cabanas providing premium island vacation experiences. Coco Beach cabana rentals are inclusive of 1 hammock, 1 waterslide, dedicated service . The complex also has a freshwater infinity pool, full bar, restaurant.
In May 2018, RCI announced plans to build permanent accommodations on CocoCay allowing Suite passengers to stay on the island overnight . The concept includes premium cabanas serving passengers on any of the RCI ships calling at CocoCay.
In 2017-2018 was constructed a new pier , as well as a basketball court, bocce ball court, bowling court, volleyball nets, large-size pool table.
In 2016 the private island was upgraded with a swim-up bar at Barefoot Beach, new cabanas, new island dock , 35 beach bungalows at Barefoot Beach.
In 2015, the island was upgraded with new trams and was added a new / shorter tram route and a new freshwater shower .

Royal Caribbean Make Their Mark And Trademark These Cruise Ship Names
It is common knowledge that Royal Caribbean has held the title for worlds largest cruise ship with Harmony of the Seas since April 2016 and Symphony of the Seas is next on the cards to take its place when it launches in 2018.
Well, the cruise line has just announced that they have filed two trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark office for what appears to be cruise ship names.
The brand have filed for new trademarks on Apex of the Seas and Joy of the Seas on June 27th 2017 after abandoning both registered trademarks back in September 2015.
This recent registration comes days after Royal registered for a similar trademark for Spectrum of the Seas, although their intentions with the names have not been announced.
Royal Caribbean currently have six ships on order with some ships under construction, and two of which already have names: Symphony of the Seas and Icon of the Seas.
