Welcome to the first post in the Countdown to Cruise series. Ill share with you my tips to effectively using the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner.
I use the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner to pre-book and pre-pay for everything I can because I HATE coming back to a large credit card bill. And, I hate to stress about it when I could be relaxing. Oh, I also want to save a little money!

Research Credit Card Perks
If you travel and cruise often, its worthwhile to have a credit card that rewards you for traveling. Some high-end credit cards have great perks and benefits that can help you accrue points.
I always book my Royal Caribbean cruises on the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, for a few key reasons.
First, this card is a premium travel credit card and we receive 3x points on all travel purchases with the card. Therefore, a $1,000 purchase will earn 3,000 Ultimate Rewards. These points can be redeemed for 1.5 cents per point on the Chase website, which is worth $45. When spending thousands of dollars on cruising and airfare, this adds up quickly.
Second, the Chase Sapphire Reserve has incredible travel insurance provided for common carriers, including cruise lines. This includes travel interruptions, cancellations and delays most importantly, it covers emergency medical coverage and emergency medical evacuation coverage.
The American Express Platinum card also includes travel insurance and coverages, including emergency medical evacuation coverage.
Before booking additional travel insurance for your trip, consider if your credit cards already include coverage. If you cruise often, look into opening a credit card that rewards you for traveling. Ensure you are maximizing your purchases by paying for your cruises with credit cards that earn points for travel.
How To Find My Reservation Number
Before you can link a reservation with yours, you will need some basic information about each personâs reservation:
- Reservation number
The most common issue for anyone that wants to link reservations is finding their reservation number.
There are a few ways to find your reservation number, so itâs just a matter of whatever is easier for you.
You can find that by logging into your Royal Caribbean account. I find that it is easiest to do this on an actual computer, rather than the mobile app.
After logging in, the reservation number should be listed with every cruise you have booked.
Other ways to get the reservation number include:

Have A Question About The Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner
If something is unclear you can always call or email Royal Caribbean to get clarification. Im not a phone fan but over the years Ive submitted several emails looking for clarification. In fact, I just emailed them this week looking for clarification on a particular internet package.
Here is an example question that is a bit of a hot topic. Recently, Royal Caribbean changed its policy on the alcohol package. They now specify that if one adult in a stateroom purchase the alcohol drink packages all adults over 21 in the same stateroom must also purchase the package. .
So, if your spouse drinks but you dont, contact Royal Caribbean and ask them if there are exceptions to this new rule. By the way, yes, there are many. Dont be afraid to ask a question.

Rci Cruise Cancellation Policy
Starting April 18, 2018, Royal Caribbean passengers who want to cancel an upcoming cruise without penalty have to do so farther out from the departure date than before. The new RCI cruise cancellation policy simplifies the penalty fee schedule by reducing the number of itinerary categories from 5 to 2: those of 1 to 4 nights and those 5 nights or longer.
The previous time when RCI updated its cancellation policy was on March 7, 2016.

Royal Caribbean Cruises To Cuba From Florida
Royal Caribbean operated Cuba cruises with the Miami-homeported ship Empress of the Seas. The first Cuban cruise was on April 19, 2017 .
The newly-refreshed Empress OTS had scheduled a total of 58 voyages in the period January 2018 through March 2019, with more than half offering overnights in havana. Empress was homeported in Tampa for summer 2018, for 4- and 5-night itineraries to Key West, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Havana . For the winter 2018-2019 season, the ship repositioned to Port Everglades .
On December 1, 2017, RCI added 2 new Cuban ports included in 4- to 8-night long Caribbean itineraries on Empress of the Seas. The new 7-night âBest of Cubaâ itinerary from Miami visits Cienfuegos, Havana, and Nassau. The 5-night itinerary visits Key West Florida and Havana . The 8-night itinerary visits Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba, Grand Cayman Island, and Labadee Haiti.
Majesty of the Seas offered 4- and 5-night itineraries to Havana leaving roundtrip from Tampa and from Fort Lauderdale . In July 2017, RCI unveiled the companyâs 2nd ship to Cuba â Majesty OTS, homeported in Port Canaveral. Starting March 25, 2019, the liner offered a 4-night voyage calling at Havana.
Alaska Airlines offers regular nonstop flights to Havana from Los Angeles . An 80-min ling JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale to Havana costs less than USD 100. Previously, air travel from the USA to Cuba was thought charter flights only.

If you have a special need during your cruise. If you have a health issue or severe allergy, send a note to Royal Caribbean. For example, if you utilize a breathing machine and let Royal Caribbean know, they will provide you with an extension cord and distilled water at no charge.
Email special_needs@rccl.com include your reservation number, cabin number, ship name sailing dates and, of course, your need. You will receive an automated response and then a complete response within 2 days . If your special need is in regards to a food allergy be sure and discuss it with the dining staff as well.
Royal Caribbean Changes Cut
Royal Caribbean changed changed the cut-off date for pre-cruise purchases and reservations through the cruise lines Cruise Planner on eight cruise ships. This change will allow even greater flexibility when preparing for a cruise on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
Royal Caribbeans Cruise Planner allows guests to pre-book beverage packages, specialty dining reservations, internet packages, spa packages, shore excursions and more. Previously, guests could make reservations from 180 days up until four days before their cruise.
The cruise line has changed the cut-off date on eight cruise ships. On the following eight ships, reservations can now be made on Cruise Planner up until one day before the cruise:

Passenger Shipping Pause 2020
Due to the Coronavirus crisis, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group suspended its entire fleets passenger shipping operations worldwide by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 15, 2020, through early-July 2021.

All affected bookings received full refunds , including on prepurchased through RCI cruise packages and services. With rebooking are offered 125% refunds in FCC to be used on itineraries that depart up to September 30, 2022. The FCC must be redeemed by December 31, 2021. Full cash refund or changing the FCC to a monetary refund must be done by March 31, 2021. Within 45 days , all taxes, port fees and pre-purchased packages-amenities are automatically refunded to the original form of payment.
RCIs Cancellation Policy was extended to allow penalty-free cancellations up to 48 hours prior departure and receive an FCC. The policy was also enhanced with two new rebooking options Best Price Guarantee and Lift and Shift .
