The Symphony Of The Seas Deck Plan Allows For An Excellent Passenger Flow

Symphony of the Seas – What’s New Video Tour

Symphony of the Seas may be a huge ship, but its carefully designed deck plan is easier to navigate than that of many other smaller cruise ships. The reason Symphony of the Seas is because Royal Caribbean listened to feedback and kept the passenger experience top of mind when designing it. Complaints that ranged from the omission of a pool in the Solarium on Harmony of the Seas, to difficult-to-reach cabinetry in staterooms or no way to get omelets in the Windjammer Marketplace, have all been resolved on Symphony. Royal Caribbean has even brought back “Hairspray” by popular demand, giving the production a total refresh for a new audience.

Symphony comes with all of the perks of big a mega-ship but nearly none of the pitfalls. Like other Oasis-class ships, Symphony of the Seas features the easily navigable neighborhood concept, which includes Central Park, Entertainment Place and the Boardwalk.

A brilliant passenger flow, plenty of signage and an intuitive sense of orientation means that despite being massive, it’s hard to get lost for long onboard. Other byproducts of size, like pollution or waste, are offset by the line’s Save the Waves program and by constant improvements to ship engineering. Symphony, like many of the line’s ships, is “zero to landfill” meaning no waste is left behind. A new program has banned plastic straws and Symphony is actually 25 percent more energy-efficient than its fleetmate Allure of the Seas.

Symphony Of The Seas Overview

As the fourth Oasis Class ship in Royals fleet, the company had lots of practice in building their mega ships by the time Symphony of the Seas debuted in 2018.

When she debuted, Symphony of the Seas became the largest cruise ship in the world after taking the title away from sister Harmony of the Seas .

Symphony is certainly massive, but Royal Caribbeans practice of dividing Oasis Class into neighborhoods really sets these ships apart in the way of crowd control. Even with 6,680 passengers on board, and 2,200 crew, she is designed to never feel that way.

Instead, Symphony feels like a floating city, surprisingly easy to navigate. Passengers meander through the park and promenade, quickly finding their favorite spots.

The Seven Neighborhoods on Symphony of the Seas:

1. Boardwalk – Think Coney Island of yesteryear meets the sports pubs of today. One side has Johnny Rockets, and the other has Playmakers. Best of both worlds!

2. Pool and Sports Zone – An outdoor wonderland full of water & sun, sports courts, and even adventure activities!

3. Central Park – A peaceful, romantic path through the center of the ship with specialty dining, shopping, and live music.

4. Royal Promenade – The main vein where everything happens! Bars, food, shops, music, parades and tons of people watching!

5. Entertainment Place – What do you want to do tonight? Broadway shows, ice skating, comedy acts, and more!

However not only the big vessels, but also the smaller ones offer plenty options to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere. In the different restaurants you expect tasty dishes combined with an attentive service. On board, all age groups feel at home. Due to the company’s heritage a basic knowledge in English is recommended. Another thing to take into considerations is that the additional costs are higher than on German ships.

How Large Is Symphony Of The Seas

When youre talking the biggest cruise ship in the world, how big are you talking, exactly?

With a gross tonnage of 228,081 and a length of 1,184.42 feet, Symphony of the Seas isnt that much bigger than sister ships Harmony of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas but its much bigger than the mega-ships that youll find outside of the Royal Caribbean family. However, in 2022, sister ship Wonder of the Seas will become even larger at 236,857 gross tons.

The next-biggest ship, ranking fifth in the world, is Costa Smeralda from Costa Cruises, which debuted in 2019 at 185,010 GT, a whopping near 50,000 GT less than Symphony of the Seas.

Broken down, what does all of that mean for you, the cruiser?

On the ship, youll find 18 decks, nearly 2,800 staterooms, and a capacity for 6,680 passengers at maximum capacity or 5,518 passengers at double occupancy . Royal Caribbean put it all together for a cost of $1.35 billion.

The enormous 5,518-passenger Symphony of the Seas has everything you could possibly think of onboard, like a 9-deck-high zipline, The Ultimate Abyss – the tallest slide at sea, a laser tag arena, and two Flowrider surf simulators and much more. Perfect for the whole family, kids can enjoy Splashaway Bay, the three waterslides at The Perfect Storm water park, and the fun and interactive kids clubs, while parents might seek out the adults-only solarium or enjoy a walk through the tree-lined Central Park neighborhood concept. Everyone will love the flavorful and fun Mexican fare at El Loco Fresh, and the Broadway entertainment at the Royal Theater is not to be missed.

Symphony Of The Seas Offers Activities Rooms And Restaurants For All Types Of Passengers

Despite having many of the same features as other ships in its class, Royal Caribbean was not afraid to go bigger with Symphony of the Seas, adding new concepts like “Battle for Planet Z” laser tag Hooked, a seafood restaurant Playmakers, a sports bar and arcade Sugar Beach, an expanded ice cream and sweets shop and El Loco Fresh, a new Mexican eatery.

The strong execution of these fresh ventures, along with their mass appeal, almost guarantees that Royal Caribbean has ensured a new generation of fleetwide favorites. Even better, half of the new venues are included in the cruise fare.

One downside to all the investment and improvement is that the returns have to come from somewhere. In the case of Symphony, the price of nearly every specialty restaurant cover has been raised. Though just a few dollars more per person than on previous ships, it could impact budgeting for families who can’t spend hundreds more on dining in addition to what they paid to board the ship.

As if to say, “we got this,” Royal Caribbean has traded in a number of partnerships to rely on their own in-house talent on Symphony of the Seas. This includes no more affiliation with Michael Schwartz in 150 Central Park, and also no DreamWorks characters. Those familiar with Royal Caribbean cruises may also miss the renowned Chefs Table, which the Symphony of the Seas lacks.

The Dizzying Story Of Symphony Of The Seas The Largest And Most Ambitious Cruise Ship Ever Built

Symphony of the Seas Cruise Ship Tour and Review: Updated

Symphony of the Seas which, on its maiden voyage from Barcelona in March 2018 became the largest passenger ship ever built is about five times the size of the Titanic. At 362 metres long, you could balance it on its stern and its bow would tower over all but two of Europes tallest skyscrapers. Owned and operated by Miami-based cruise line Royal Caribbean, it can carry nearly 9,000 people and contains more than 40 restaurants and bars 23 pools, jacuzzis and water slides two West End-sized theatres an ice rink a surf simulator two climbing walls a zip line a fairground carousel a mini-golf course a ten-storey fun slide laser tag a spa a gym a casino plus dozens more shopping and entertainment opportunities. To put it another way, Symphony of the Seas might be the most ludicrously entertaining luxury hotel in history. It just also happens to float.

Most peoples idea of a cruise is Oh God, Im going to be packed in with five thousand people I dont want to talk to and getting bored out of my tree, says Tom Wright, founder of WKK Architects, who has worked on cruise ships and land hotels. In fact, its like going to a hotel that just moves magically over night.

We dont set out to build the largest ships, Kulovaara told me, somewhat sheepishly. The goal is to build the best ship. But we have so many ideas that we need a little bit more space.

Reportedly, around $1.4bn was incurred in the construction of this world-class cruise ship at the STX Europe Turku shipyard in Finland.
