Order books for the hugely popular Toyota LandCruiser workhorse will stay closed for at least another 12 months, however the V8 is still very much alive, for now.
The Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series heavy-duty four-wheel-drive range will not be available to order for at least another 12 months, says a top Toyota Australia executive.
However, the company has cautioned this is not a sign the V8 is dead yet.
Itll be at least 12 months before were able to even consider opening order books on , said Sean Hanley, the sales and marketing boss of .
The executive said there was no hidden reason for the stop-sale, and the decision to close the order books was designed to allow time for the factory to catch up with the current backlog.
Were just being upfront, said Mr Hanley. Everything that suits LandCruiser 70 Series is booming and its had a surge in private sales, too.
Clearly if improves, and we get more cars, we can reduce the wait times. But at this stage we dont see anything within 12 months.
When asked if the pause in orders was to clear the backlog of V8 production before a rumoured switch to turbo diesel V6 power, Mr Hanley told Drive:
No, 70 Series orders are being paused only because we have extraordinary demand that we cant meet and in the interest of being totally transparent with the customer, we just think that its best . Right now weve got to satisfy our existing customer base.
