When youre figuring out how much your cruise costs, be sure to account for the following additional costs.
Fees For Using Spa Areas
A growing number of cruise ships have luxurious spa complexes that go well beyond treatment rooms.
Youll find sprawling thermal suites with saunas and steam rooms, thalassotherapy pools, heated loungers, rain showers and even snow rooms where you can laze away the day. On many vessels, though, youll face a steep charge just to set foot in one of these areas.
Norwegian charges $199 per week for a thermal suite pass at its spas, and lines such as Cunard and Carnival have daily fees for access to thermal suites, too.

We recommend budgeting an additional $1,000 to $1,500 per person for shore excursions to get the most out of your Alaskan cruise. Gratuities And Service Charges On The Cruise
Regardless of whether or not you agree with the policy, the fact is that many cruise staff members rely on tips and gratuities. These days, most of the gratuities youll be expected to pay will automatically be added to all onboard purchases. The standard cruise gratuity is 15%, though this is adjustable in your onboard account. Its important to note that you do not have to pay these gratuities, but if you enjoyed the service from your stateroom and dining staff, you should pay them.
Daily service charges go to your stateroom attendant and server, and will either be billed to your shipboard account or prepaid at the time of booking. All other gratuities for bartenders, guides, etc., will be added to your bill afterward.

Norwegian Encore’s much-ballyhooed go-cart track will set you back $15 for a single, eight-lap ride. The ships nearby laser tag course will cost you $10 for a five-minute shoot-out. In both cases, you can buy a weeklong pass, but only if youre OK dropping an extra $199 per person.
